Just when you think Nintendo has pulled itself back from the brink, the company throws itself back into Mount Doom. According to anonymous sources and poorly informed analysts, the Wii U is underpowered, and Nintendo is totally screwed yet again.
Of the Wii U, an unnamed developer speaking to CVG claims “the graphics are just not as powerful.” For those less tech savvy, what he or she means is: “I don’t know what I’m talking about.” Other anonymous devs have claimed porting games from the 360 and PS3 has been a struggle as the Wii U is actually weaker than those systems.
Meanwhile, Gearbox CEO Brian Martell, whose company is actually making a Wii U game, says Aliens: Colonial Marines will look better on Wii U thanks to more RAM and a “really great processor” relative to current gen systems.
GameIndustry.biz also reports that analyst David Gibson of Macquarie Capital Securities is not thrilled with what he sees happening over at Nintendo. He really wants the company to just cave and make iOS games with significantly smaller margins for some reason. As he sees it, Nintendo’s issues are three-fold:
- Wii U’s GPU ain’t bringin’ it relative to the PS3/360.
- iPad exists and might eventually get a controller.
- Wii U will only have a one-year head start on PS4/”Durango.” Also, Activision’s supposedly not supporting the system.
Of course, the GPU issue is undetermined, the iPad doesn’t have a controller, and this lack of Activision support is news to everyone, including Activision.
Well, that’s it, I’m sold. Or rather, unsold. No point in getting a Wii U now.
